The cost of a compass adjustment on a vessel of less than 80 metres (LOA) depends on the size and location of the vessel. Fees for consecutive adjustments on different vessels at the same location on the same day are discounted due to expenses being shared between vessels / clients.
In some locations it is possible to swing the vessel at, or close to, the harbour entrance, or even just off the berth. In other locations it is necessary to take the vessel a considerable distance in order to carry out an effective compass swing and adjustment. Anticipated time spent aboard the vessel by the compass adjuster is a factor in determining appropriate fees.
Vessels of 80 metres and over are charged at a fixed rate (POA), plus expenses and any spare parts supplied. Ship-shore transfers, if required, are to be arranged by and costs met by the client / agent. Access, including security clearance, to and from the vessel is to be enabled by the client / agent. Our compass adjuster holds a current Australian MSIC.
